The Epsilon staff of operations professionals provides innovative and effective solutions to many operational management issues critical to safe and efficient operations. ESS staff have hands-on experience in the development and utilization of process management applied to operational environments. They are experienced in applying the appropriate level of rigor to operational activities and can assist in bringing about new levels of safety, quality, and efficiency in their operations. Staff members have been instrumental in the development and implementation of many of the Department of Energy's (DOE) initiatives designed to enhance DOE facility operations.
Epsilon has highly qualified personnel available who can help improve a wide range of operational areas such as Self-Assessment, Operations Program Evaluation, Configuration Management, Conduct of Operations, Unreviewed Safety Questions, Integrated Safety Management, Maintenance Management, Work Control and Safety (Authorization) Basis. ESS understands the dual needs to be cost-effective and results-oriented in the implementation of management systems. The application of the appropriate level of rigor and process controls to operational activities yields productivity improvement with desired safe, efficient, and quality achievements.
Conduct of Operations
Today's business environment requires that industrial operations be conducted with a high degree of formality and discipline to ensure safety and continuity. Conduct of Operations provides guidance for establishing the infrastructure necessary to achieve the appropriate levels of formality and rigor. (More Info)
Performance Monitoring (Self Assessment)
An effective self-assessment program is critical to any successful operation and is vital to continuous quality improvement. Successful organizations understand the need to evaluate their performance, measure the results, and implement timely and effective corrective actions. (More Info)
Configuration Management
Configuration Management (CM) is the control of the physical assets of a facility or operation through the accurate maintenance of records and management of resulting data. An accurate understanding of facility configuration is vital to assure the facility operates safely and efficiently. (More Info)
Unreviewed Safety Questions
The concept of the Unreviewed Safety Questions (USQs) was established to provide contractors at nuclear facilities the flexibility needed to conduct day-to-day operations by allowing contractors to make limited changes without prior DOE approval. The USQ process is DOE's method for determining the proper approval authority for proposed facility changes.
Safety (Authorization) Basis
While several documents comprise the Safety Basis for a DOE facility, the foremost of them are the Safety Analysis Report and Technical Safety Requirements. The need for the highest level of quality and accuracy is of utmost importance in the development and upgrade of these documents. ESS has the capability and experience to produce and refine these documents to the necessary state of quality and accuracy required by DOE Orders and Standards. In support of the writing of these documents is our capability for performing hazard and accident analyses, evaluating natural phenomena hazard classifications, and determining the safety significance of structures, systems and components. This experience base supports not only nuclear, but non-nuclear activities as well.
